INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
WHY A.K.A. SCIENCE?
Hands-on activities, lots of individual attention,
and projects to take home all add up to a great time–and a great learning
experience for your child!
With A.K.A. Science, your child will
discover the world of science in a fun
and interactive way. A.K.A. Science will foster a positive attitude toward both science and school as it helps your child gain confidence in their academic abilities. Our
hands-on experiments and activities leave them excited and
eager for future learning experiences.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN?
Your child will explore themed topics from chemistry to physics each session. Our materials and curriculum are designed to help children playfully practice their science skills as they learn how to conduct meaningful science experiments. We utilize techniques based on current research in hand/mind learning styles and cognitive development. Our materials are selected and screened for play value and safety as well as science content.

WHERE IS A.K.A. SCIENCE HELD?
A.K.A. Science classes are held at area schools and organizations. Click here for a current listing of A.K.A. Science locations. If your child's school does not offer A.K.A. Science, please contact us to find out how to get a program started.
WHEN IS A.K.A. SCIENCE OFFERED?
A.K.A. Science classes are held in eight week sessions which begin every October, January and April (summer sessions are available in some locations). Your child will participate in A.K.A. Science one hour per week directly after the school day during each eight week session. See your school's registration form for details.
HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD?
You can register your child for A.K.A. Science in two ways.
1. Registration forms
are sent home from school with your child in September, December and March. Please
complete and return the form and payment by the posted deadline.
2. If your child attends an after school program such as SUN or PALs, you may register them through your school's after school registration booklet.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is a $60 per student registration fee for participation in A.K.A. Science. However, we do not turn any child away for inability to pay. Scholarships are available to families who are unable to pay through generous contributions from local businesses and foundations. Through a generous grant from the Portland
Children’s Investment Fund, we are
able to offer all 4-8 grade A.K.A. Science
classes held in SUN Schools free of
charge.
